Welcome to Mochlos – My Favourite Village in Eastern Crete

If you’re planning a trip to Eastern Crete, I would really like to recommend you visit the small fishing village of Mochlos. It’s only a few minutes from my village, Tourloti, where I produce my Sopato organic extra virgin olive oil. For me, Mochlos is one of the most beautiful places in Crete. It is quiet, relaxed and still feels like the real Greece. You won’t find big hotels or crowded beaches here. Instead, you’ll find crystal-clear water, small traditional tavernas, friendly people and a beautiful view across the sea.
One of the highlights of Mochlos is the small island just in front of the village. During summer, small boats take visitors across to explore one of the oldest Minoan archaeological sites in Crete. If you enjoy history, it’s definitely worth visiting.
During the summer, after around 5:00 pm, you can usually find me working at Bar Oktana, right on the waterfront. If I’m not too busy, please come and say hello. I always enjoy meeting people who have travelled all the way to Crete. Bar Oktana is also one of my favourite places to sit, relax and have a coffee or small snack. My favourite snack is very simple: fresh bread, a little sea salt, and plenty of Sopato extra virgin olive oil. Sometimes I also enjoy homemade ice cream with olive oil on top. It may sound unusual, but once you try it, you’ll understand why I like it so much.
If you’re looking for hidden places in Crete, planning a road trip through Eastern Crete, or simply want to experience authentic village life, I think you’ll love Mochlos as much as I do. And if you enjoy the olive oil at Bar Oktana, you’ll know exactly where it comes from. My olive trees grow in the hills around Tourloti, just a few minutes above the village.
