Eastern Crete, Greece: A Small Paradise with Many Faces of Nature
Apr 25, 2026
Eastern Crete is one of the most special places you can find in Europe. Many people when they think about Crete, they imagine busy beaches and many tourists. But here in the east side of the island, around Sitia and the small villages, things are very different. Life is more simple, more real, and nature is still strong. Every day looks a little bit different, and this is what makes it so beautiful.
It is not only a place for summer holidays. Here you can experience many faces of nature. You can go for a swim in the sea, and at the same time you see high mountains behind you. Sometimes even in the same day you feel like you are in two different places. Also the sky here… it is something special. The sunsets are very strong, with colors like orange, pink and purple. Many times I look at the sky and I say, this cannot be real. If you are in a village a little bit higher, the view becomes even more beautiful, especially in the evening when everything becomes calm.
And yes, even snow we have. Many people don’t believe this, but in winter the mountains, they get covered with snow. It is a very nice contrast. You can be near the sea, maybe with good weather, and at the same time you see white mountains. This is something very unique for Crete. The landscape here is always changing. One moment you see green olive trees, next moment dry mountains. Some days are very calm, other days we have strong wind. Summer is hot and full of light, winter is more quiet but still very beautiful. This is the real character of this place.
Also here you will see the real Greek life. Not only tourists, but normal people, villages, small tavernas, families working on the land. You don’t just visit Greece, you feel it. Crete, and especially the eastern side, is really like a small paradise in the south of Europe. We have everything here: sea, mountains, good food, olive oil, sun almost all the year. It is a place that gives you something in every season. When you come here, you don’t forget it easy. The light, the colors, the silence, everything stays with you. So tell me, have you already been here… or you plan to come one day?
